October Newsletter

October 2006
Dear Families and Friends of McPherson County Schools:

It is difficult to believe that we have completed the first six weeks of school and we will have completed the first quarter on October 18. I am happy to say that our students have been working hard and are accomplishing a great deal. This month will include an exciting event when Congressman Tom Osborne visits Tryon on the 5th and speaks to students, staff and patrons of the district at  in the high school gymnasium. The Sandhills Conference Choral Clinic will be held in Mullen this year on October 10. There will be a concert after the clinic at 7:45 PM Central Time.

October also brings another exciting event with Homecoming on the 13th.  The enclosed flyer has a listing of activities for the week. This is an excellent opportunity to show school spirit and support our students.  Thanks to all of you who help with window painting, floats, etc.

On October 23 all schools in the district will have a  late start to accommodate staff development for our teachers.  Conferences will be held on October 26 beginning at 3:45 for the high school.  Tryon Elementary will hold conferences on Nov. 1 and will schedule individual times for parents ahead of time. Daly and Starr Schools will arrange individual meeting times with parents.

As we approach the cold weather season I would like to let parents know that we will always try to make decisions on late starts and school cancellations with safety in mind first.  If at any time you feel that it would be unsafe for your children to be on the roads keep them home.  Coming in after road conditions improve would be better if it keeps our students safe.  Just give us a call and let us know if we should expect your student to be late or absent.

We appreciate your support of our students.  It helps us achieve so much more when we all work together for the common good of our children.

Sincerely,

Mr. Porter
