Project Information
The TownCast Project is a year long project funded by Title IID grant funds.
Our focus:
To
engage students in authentic lessons where they will be able to learn,
think critically, solve problems, use information, communicate,
innovate and collaborate by providing professional training that is
on-going, job-embedded, hands-on and group oriented.
Project goals:
- Infusion of multimedia technology into all grade levels and curricular areas.
- Professional development for teachers in the use of communication tools, and audio, visual, and video integration strategies.
- Increased student engagement and participation in communicative and collaborative classroom learning.
Each school district team will consist of 3 teachers and 3 students. The teams will receive multimedia computers, iPods, microphones and professional training in audio-visual and communicative applications. Each team will plan and implement a cross-curricular project incorporating the use of audio and enhanced podcasts to produce a documentary series about their community. Students will interview and communicate with local leaders to identify the most important issues facing their communities. Using resources from various organizations, libraries and the internet, teams will work to propose viable solutions to local problems. Teams will document their research by creating podcasts illustrating their projects. Students will be learning 'with' media and technology, rather than 'from' media. They will "use technology to learn, think critically, solve problems, use information, communicate, innovate, and collaborate."
