South Platte Public Schools History
The declining amount of state aid in the 1980's led to the consolidation of educational funds between the villages of Big Springs and Brule, Nebraska. The communities decided to combine their sports and activities programs to make up for this lack of financial aid. Over the years more programs were combined, leading to the complete consolidation of the schools in 1995. K-12 classes are presently held on the Big Springs campus, the Brule campus now being utilized by businesses within the community. Big Springs is located approximately 20 miles west of Ogallala, Nebraska, and the school is located on 610 Plum Street.
Students and Activities-
South Platte students have shown great success on achievement tests, and recent ACT test scores have exceeded many state and national scores. Students are provided with opportunities to participate in drama, art, volleyball, football, cross country, basketball, track, and golf activities. The drama department has placed very well in district and state competitions multiple times. The football team has qualified for the state playoffs several times as well.
