Best of the Best

It's the boys' turn for the best of the best to meet in Lincoln to battle it out for the state basketball championship.  First round action happened on March 6th, two games were held at Lincoln Southwest and two at Lincoln East.  Number 2 ranked Falls City SH met number 7 ranked Potter-Dix; Falls City won 73-36.  Number 3 ranked Ewing played number 6 St. Mary's; St. Mary's upset Ewing in a close game, 48-46.  Number 1 ranked Pleasanton played number 8 St. Edward; Pleasanton won 62-48.  The last game of the evening was between number 4 ranked Hampton and number 5 ranked Bruning-Davenport; Hampton won in another close game won 45-44.

Semi-finals action took place on March 7th at Pershing.  Falls City SH played St. Mary's; Falls City SH won in a close game 54-53.  The second game had Pleasanton beating Hampton  62-56.

Final action had a new twist to it with the teams losing in semi-finals pairing up and playing for third place.  Hampton beat St. Mary's for third place 58-35.  The championship game was played between Falls City SH and Pleasanton with Falls City SH becoming the 2008 champion, beating Pleasanton 66-54.

Maywood Invite

The track team traveled to McCook on the 20th for the Maywood track meet.  The track meet started at 9:30 in the morning.  Meka got first in shot put and broke the school record with a throw of 38' 3".  Meka also got first in discus with a throw of 112' 10 1/2".  In high jump Ashley jumped 4' 8" and she placed 3rd.  Jake got 4th in triple jump with a jump of 38' 10 1/2".  Kate placed 6th in the 200 with a run of 29.4.  Tasha placed 2nd in the mile with a time of 5:57.2.  Tasha also placed 2nd in the two - mile run with a time of 12:52.5.  Mara, Ashley, Molly, and Amy ran the two - mile relay and placed 5th with a time of 12:02.4.  Good job Longhorns keep up the good work!  JLS
