Basketball At Hyannis

The Longhorn basketball teams traveled to Hyannis on February 1st.  The Lady Longhorns walked over the Hyannis Longhorns with a 39-13 win.  The boys team was not so fortunate.  The final score of that game was 32-41.

Meka led the team with 12 points, Amy added 10, and Molly had 7 points.  Ashley was 1 for 1 on threes.  Tasha had 4 assists.  Meka also lead the team with 5 steals.  Meka had 8 rebounds, Amy had 5, and Nicole had 4. 

No individual stats are available for the boys at this time.  AKW

Longhorns vs. Cowboys

The Lady Longhorns kicked off the night playing the Cowgirls the McPherson County High School at 6:00.  The girls started playing at 6:00.  It was a tough match but the Longhorns pulled through and won against the Cowgirls.  The Longhorns leading scorer was Meka with15 and Tasha with 11.  Then Nicole with 9.  Nicole also led the Longhorns with 3 steals and Meka with 2.  The final score ended up being 51-32.     
 
The Longhorns also had a tough match up with the Cody Kilgore Cowboys. Their score ended up being 40-65.  No individual stats are available at this time.

Basketball Vs. Mullen
 The Lady Longhorns traveled to Mullen on the 9th of February.  The score was 45-65 in Mullen's favor.  Nice try ladies.  Meka was top scorer with 12 points and Molly had 10 points.  Ashley had 6 defensive rebounds and Tasha had 5.  Molly and Ashley each had 3 offensive rebounds and Meka had 2.  Nicole had 6 steals and Tasha had 5.  Nicole had 7 assists and Tasha had 5.  Meka had one block.  Good job ladies.

Girls Finals
Sub-District action started on February 11th for the girls basketball teams.  Stapleton met Cody-Kilgore at North Platte St. Pat's for chance to get into the brackets.  Cody beat Stapleton  by a score of 46-43.

Tuesday's action brought the #1 seed Mullen against #5 seed Cody-Kilgore, Mullen won a close game by the score of 30-25.  The next game was between #2 seed Thedford and #3 seed McPherson County, Thedford won 40-19.

Finals for Sub-District action was played on Thursday, February 14th with Mullen playing Thedford for the second time in the season.  Mullen won with a score of 72-41.  This win allows Mullen to advance to Districts to play Potter-Dix on February 22 at Sutherland.

McPherson County had a tough night Tuesday night as their shots were not falling in.  Seniors Meka and Amy played their last game of the season.  Meka ended up with 8 points and 7 rebounds.  Amy had 5 points and 6 rebounds.  Tasha had 7 rebounds and 2 steals.  Nicole had 6 rebounds and 6 steals.

Boys Basketball against Maywood
The boys basketball team traveled to Maywood on February 15th. The boys lost 36-46. No individual stats are available this time. AGBB

Boys Finale
Sub-District action started on February 18th for the boys basketball teams.  McPherson County met Thedford at North Platte St. Pat's for a chance to get into the brackets.  McPherson County beat Thedford by a score of 35-25.

Tuesday's action brought the #1 seed Cody-Kilgore against #4 seed McPherson County, Cody won 58-20.  The next game was between #2 Mullen and #3 Stapleton, Mullen won with a score of 69-50.

Finals for Sub-District action was played on Thursday February 21st with Cody playing Mullen for the second time this season.  Mullen upset the #1 seed Cody-Kilgore to advance to Districts with a score of 60-44.  Mullen will meet Potter-Dix at Hershey on February 26th for their chance to go to State.

Individual stats for McPherson County are not available at this time.

Girls District
The Mullen girls played the Potter-Dix girls on Friday the 21st at 7:30 in Sutherland.  The girls battled it out to see who would go to state.  Mullen came out on top with a score of 52-37.  Good job Mullen.  JLS

Runner:
First Day of Track Practice
The girls started practice on February 25th and the boys started track on March 3rd. The girls out for track are Meka, Amy, Tasha, Kate, Ashley, Molly, Mara, and Samantha. The boys out for track are Ben, Tui, Jake, Chris, Eric, and Gabe. The first track meet is in McCook on March 20th.     AKW

Boys Districts
The D-2-6 Districts finals were played at Hershey between Mullen and Potter-Dix.  Potter-Dix won the game with a score of 56-42.

BB at Its Finest
It's that time of year again for the best of the best to meet in Lincoln to battle it out for the state basketball championship.  First round action happened on February 28th, two games were held at Lincoln Southwest and two at Lincoln North Star.  Number 1 ranked Falls City SH met number 8 ranked Coleridge; Falls City won 57-44.  Number 4 ranked North Loup-Scotia played number 5 Ewing; Ewing won 50-34.  Number 2 ranked Pleasanton played number 7 Sioux County; Pleasanton won in a close one 45-41.  The last game of the evening was between number 6 ranked Mullen and number 3 ranked Chambers; Chambers won 56-30.

Semi-finals action took place on February 29th at Pershing.  Falls City SH played Ewing; Ewing upset number 1  Falls City SH in a close game 57-51.  The second game had Pleasanton beating Chambers in a very close game 52-51.

Final action had a new twist to it with the teams losing in semi-finals pairing up and playing for third place.  Falls City SH beat Chambers for third place in over time 57-49.  The championship game was played between Ewing and Pleasanton in another very close game 45-44 with Ewing becoming the 2008 champion.
