Welding Welding is an interesting career is. It is amazing what you can make with metal and you probably will see a lot of variety of things. You can also weld under water in certain situations. You need to go to at least 2 years of school for welding and you could go 4 years. If you want to weld you need to like to work with metal and you need to be able to melt and sculpt metal. Pay depends on how good of a welder you become. In 2001 you could make $539 in a week. That's $13.48 an hour and you would have to work a 40-hour workweek. The only way to advance in this job is to get more experience and to work at it to get better. JLS
