 Longhorns vs. Eagles The Longhorns played Brady here on January 4. The boys won with a score of 61-49. Ben lead in points with 23 and Tui had 21 points. Ben had 8 offensive rebounds and Duell, Petar, and Tui each had 1 offensive rebounds. Tui had 8 defensive rebounds and Ben had 5 defensive rebounds. Duell had 6 assists and Jake had 5 assists. Jake had 7 steals and Tui had 5 steals. Good job boys. The girls won with a score of 50-37. Ashley lead in points with 17 and Tasha and Nicole each had 8 points. Meka had 8 defensive rebounds and Ashley had 6. Ashley had 3 offensive rebounds and Molly had 2 offensive rebounds. Nicole had 5 steals and Meka, Tasha, Amy each had 3 steals. Tasha had 10 assists and Meka and Nicole each had 3 assist. Meka and Ashley each had 2 blocks. Good job ladies. JLS
Longhorns vs. Cardinals The McPherson County Longhorns traveled to Arnold on January 11. The Lady ŒHorns started off the night with a tough battle. They came up short with the win. The final score was 34-42. Meka was the leading scorer for the Ladies with 9 points. Nicole led the team with 3 steals and Meka with 2.
After the girls played, then it was the boy's turn. It was also tough match up for the 'Horn's. They played a tough 3 quarters then in the 4th quarter the Cardinals pulled away. The final score was 45-61. Tui leads the Longhorns with 18 points and Ben with 16. Petar pulled down 9 rebounds. DPA
Longhorns with a Great Win over Stapleton
The Longhorn≠s basketball team played Stapleton at home, which was a very tough game. The Longhorns started leading the first quarter by 16 points, after that Stapleton came back and the difference was only 3 points. But the Longhorns won with a score of 58-52. It was a great win. The individual stats are as follows: Tui with 25 points 12 rebounds and 4 assists, Petar 8 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals, Ben 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, and Jake with 2 big threes, 3 assists and 3 rebounds.
The Lady Longhorns with a Win
The Lady Longhorns also played a very tough game against Stapleton. Every quarter was very even, both teams playing very good and struggling a lot. But at the end of the game the Lady Longhorns had a great finish. They were making the free throws and handling the ball very well. The final score was 39-33. The individual stats are as follows: Meka 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, Tasha 6 points, 8 steals and 6 steals, and Nicole with 7 points, 1 steal and 2 assists. Good job girls. AGBB
Hyannis traveled to Tryon on the 17th to play basketball. The girls dominated over the Hyannis girls with the score of 47 √ 11. High scorers were Meka with were12 points and Nicole with 10 points. With the most defensive rebounds Molly with 4 and Kate with 3. Offensive rebounds are Meka with 3 and Molly with 2. Meka had 7 steals and Tasha had 4. Tasha had 7 assists and Nicole and Meka each had 3. Good job Ladies. JLS
Arthur
The Lady Longhorns traveled to Arthur on the 18th of January. The Longhorns walked over the Wolves with a score of 50 to 22. Meka was the leading scorer with 16 points and Ashley put up 13 points. Tasha had 1 three point shot. Meka had 8 rebounds and Amy had 5. Leading in steals was Meka and Jordan with 5 each. Tasha had 4 assists. AKW
Conference Basketball
It's that time of year again, time for the Sandhills Conference tournament. First round action for the girls began on January 21st. Number one seed, Mullen, drew a bye. Number four seed, Cody, played number five seed, Sandhills; Cody won with a score of 48-43. Number three seed, McPherson County, played number six seed, Arthur. McPherson County won with a score of 45-14. Number two seed, Thedford, played number seven seed, Hyannis. Thedford won with a score of 58-25.
First round action for the boys began on January 22nd. Number one seed, Cody, drew a bye. Number four seed, Arthur County, played number five seed, McPherson County; Arthur won with a score of 60-46. Number three seed, Sandhills, played number six seed Hyannis; Sandhills won with a score of 47-29. Number two seed, Mullen, played number seven seed, Thedford; Mullen won with a score of 59-37.
Semi-finals for both girls and boys were played on Thursday, January 24th with the girls' games first. In the first girl's game, Mullen played Cody; Mullen won with a score of 61-42. In the second game of girl's semi-finals, McPherson County played Thedford; McPherson County upset the number two seed with a score of 43-21. In the first boy's games Cody played Arthur; Cody won with a score of 56-41. In the second game of boy's semi-finals, Sandhills played Mullen; Mullen won with a score of 63-56.
Finals were played on Friday January 25th for both girls and boys. Consolation matches were played first. For the girls, Cody played Thedford, Thedford ended up with the third place plaque with a score of 42-33. For the boys, Arthur played Sandhills, Arthur ended up with the third place plaque with a score of 72-65. Championship matches pitted Mullen vs. McPherson County for the girls and Cody vs. Mullen for the boys. Mullen girls ended up the conference champions for the 2007-08 season. They beat McPherson County 51-24. Cody boys were crowned conference champions by beating Mullen 62-21.
Stats for the girls in game one were: Tasha was the top scorer with 15 points, Ashley followed with 8 points, Meka and Kate each had 7. Meka and Kate each had 5 defensive rebounds. Meka, Ashley and Kate each had 3 offensive rebounds. Meka lead the pack in steals with 5 followed closely by Nicole and Kate with 4.
Stats for the girls in the semi-final game were: Nicole was the top scorer with 14 points, followed by Tasha with 10 points, Meka had 9 points and Ashley had 8 points. Amy and Meka each had 5 defensive rebounds, followed by Tasha with 4. Meka, Nicole, and Amy each had 2 offensive rebounds. Ashley had 5 steals followed by Tasha and Nicole with 2, Meka and Amy had 1.
Stats for the girls championship game were: Nicole was once again the top scorer with 10 points, followed by Tasha with 7 points, Ashley had 4 points and Meka had 3 points. Meka was to top defensive rebounder with 6, followed by Amy with 3, Nicole with 2 and Tasha and Ashley each had 1. Top offensive rebounder was Nicole with 5, Amy with 3, Ashley with 2 and Kate had 1. Meka had 3 steals, Ashley had 2 and Jordan had 1. The Lady Longhorns brought home the second place plaque.
